Why Hydrogen?
simplest, lightest and most abundant element in the universe
PRODUCED FROM MANY ENERGY SOURCES
ZERO EMISSION TRANSPORT FUEL THAT IS NO MORE OR LESS SAFE THAN PEtrOL OR DIESEL
CAN BE STORED, TRANSPORTED AND EXPORTED
CAN BE MADE CLEANLY USING JUST WATER AND RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY
CAN BE PRODUCED AND USED WITH NO CARBON EMISSIONS
HAS A HIGHER ENERGY DENSITY THAN PETROL, DIESEL AND BATTERIES WHEN COMPRESSED
can be stored as a liquid or a gas
PRODUCES CLEAN ELECTRICITY AND FUEL
OFFERS VERSATILITY AS AN ENERGY CARRIER WITH WIDE APPLICATIONS
clean industrial feedstock
CAN PROVIDE ZERO EMISSION ENERGY TO ALL SECTORS OF THE ECONOMY
Did you know?
Around 70 million tonnes of hydrogen is used worldwide today, mostly for oil refining and chemical production.
Decarbonising existing fossil fuel hydrogen production worldwide is equivalent to decarbonising all of the United Kingdom and Indonesia combined.
New Zealand already produces 1000’s of tonnes of hydrogen every day. It is safely transported on New Zealand highways, and has been for many years. In Auckland there is a large electrolyser that has been operating safely for the past 7 years!
